Writing about new topics always requires extensive research. This is how I found myself on Car Magazine. Two weeks ago I attended the re-launch of Proton South Africa. A Malaysian car brand which promises to tornado the affordable luxury market.
As an everyday experiences blogger, my aim was to view this car from a consumer’s perspective. Car fanatics will always want to undress the car. They will tell you about torque and all the other numbers you never care to remember.
Besides moving you from point A to B, a car must be two other things, SAFE and COMFORTABLE. Which is exactly what the Proton X50 epitomises.
What defines a ‘safe’ car?
The Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) has become my go-to when I need an answer to this question. The NCAP IS A platform for co-operation among new car assessment programmes worldwide. It also promotes the universal adoption of the United nation’s motor vehicle safety standards.
Even though this programme does not compel car manufacturers to ‘obey’ the rules, it enlightens consumers on the safety standards of their prospective cars.
Tickicking another one of my boxes, the Proton X50 achieved an NCap score of 84.26 out of 100. The X50 scored 31.42 for adult occupant protection, 41.5 for child occupant protection and 14 for safety assist. This makes it one of the safest cars on South African roads currently.
Comfort
Beyond this, this car boasts futuristic comfort features. My favourites are the STANDARD sunroof and the voice command feature which does almost everything you tell it to.
In fact, I do not have enough alphabets to demonstrate this luxuriously brilliant yet affordable car.
