The future – a tantalizing carrot we’re always chasing. The more we strive for it, the further away it gets. I know first hand how easy it is to get caught up in the rat race. You even forget to smell the coffee.
Sacrificing today, for tomorrow
The future has taken so much from me – from you too. This sentiment speaks to how we often sacrifice our present happiness for the promise of a life yet to come. How often do we bask in today’s glory without regretting yesterday’s mistakes? Probably not enough. We’re constantly looking ahead, planning for the future and striving for success.

Bona fide villain
Letting go of the past is rather easy. Even though we’ve all made mistakes that haunt our current experiences. But let’s be honest, the hopeful promise of a better future is the real villain. It gets us caught up in the endless possibilities and potential pitfalls of what’s to come. We’re so focused on what’s ahead that we forget to enjoy what’s right in front of us.
What if it doesn’t get better than today?
So, strike a balance
It starts with mindfulness and being present in the moment. Taking time to appreciate the current joys can help us feel more grounded. It connects us to whichever universe we’re in.
Having goals and aspirations for the future is still as equally important. These give us a sense of purpose and direction, as well as motivate us to take action in the present.
Just take a moment to bask in today’s glory. Do so without regretting yesterday’s mistakes. Or dreaming of tomorrow’s reality. Focus on making the most of the present moment.
