Morning Mist to Midnight Terror

2 min read

The morning haze drifts over the city, wrapping its tendrils around the skyscrapers. The sun hasn’t even reached its zenith, but ambition and desire are already echoing through the streets. Joburg’s warmth has become familiar, almost comforting, as if the city’s very essence has seeped into my veins.

This apartment, once his, now ours, holds the secrets of our intimacy. The predawn hours have become sacred. A time I use to craft affection in the form of breakfast and fleeting kisses. Six months of this existence, a reality inconceivable to my ancestors. Their dreams and struggles fused into this tale of privilege and incongruity.

I just received a text from a friend. She’s asking if they’re finally getting the long-awaited “Valeria The Imposter” book. For my sake, I hope this is it. My last shot at…

***gunshots, screams, smoke, sirens***

Reality unraveled. The dreamy morning dissolved into a chilling nightmare. Gunshots tore through the air, their echoes reverberating through the city’s soul. Sirens wailed in response. A cacophony of panic interwoven with the symphony of screams. My heart danced to the city’s rhythm, each pulse a reminder that life can pivot in a blink of an eye.

The text message – once a mundane exchange, now holds an unintended weight. A connection to a world I can no longer grasp. In a city where dreams and nightmares walk hand in hand, I stand on the crag of a truth.

A destiny laced with a mystery of the other world.

Next chapter: Shadows of Yesterday

  1. Why were the gunshots, screaming and the chaos so personal, why would she own such a otherwise public event… was the 6months too good to be true, did she see this coming? keen to hear more.
