Skin Deep, Soul Deeper: NIVEA Body’s Relaunch Redefines Representation

2 min read

Sandton, 22 May 2025 - Some nights feel like a handwritten note from the universe. This was one of them. Beneath the sparkle of Diamond Walk, the rhythm of Maskandi floating through Sandton City. Our dream lives are within moments like these.

I arrived as Nomfundo, the hiker who’s weathered Kilimanjaro winds and sun-baked Mafadi trails. My skin knows what it means to fight for moisture; to flake, burn and stretch. But this evening, I was more than that. I was seen. I was welcomed. I was part of NIVEA’s media circle.

Representation matters - not just in pigment, but in culture, language and lived experience. NIVEA’s relaunch did more than cater to our skin; it honoured our stories.

At the heart of the evening stood the Rich Nourishing Body Lotion, now enhanced with 100% Pure Hyaluron, Deep Nourish Serum and Almond Oil. Promising 72 hours of deep moisturisation, it’s a Godsend for someone like me - whose skin is tested by altitude and terrain almost every weekend.

As a hiker, hydration is survival. My skin becomes a map of my journey: cracked knuckles, windburned cheeks and all. Moisture isn’t a luxury - it’s a homecoming. It’s comfort after the climb.

“Simplifying body care while delivering on efficacy, inclusivity and sustainability is core to this relaunch,” said Nonjabulo Malunga, Senior Brand Manager at NIVEA South Africa.

The night was luminous. It was hosted by the ever-so-gracious Pamela Mtanga, with soulful performances by the talented Zee Nxumalo and futuristic Top Brass.

From the sustainable packaging made from 50% recycled materials to the diversity in product ranges — NIVEA reminded us that care goes far deeper than skin.

As I left, softened and glowing, I knew - this wasn’t just skincare. This was soul care. Thank you, NIVEA, for walking with us.
