Ubomi abumanga – We move

3 min read

It always comes at the most convenient time. You know when you’re soaring with the birds. The winds of mercy powering your wings with strength enough to take on Katrina.

For astronauts, I would like to believe it feels like that one out of no where cloud tainting a perfect night.

From infant years I have always believed doubt to be the thief of joy. In my youth, I’m quite impressed with the PR team behind rejection. That swindler doesn’t only thieve triumph, he will wipe its entire generation off the face of your earth.

Twenty-plenty

This year hasn’t been the kindest. To most of everybody. Like in most things, there were a few blessed exceptions. People like me who somehow enjoyed more sunshine than lockdown rains.

I may be reaching, but at some point in our lives, we’ve always wanted to be on TV. Writing this I can proudly say, among quite many others, 2020 made that dream come true for me.

Unfortunately, like most of you, 2020 also bended one of my biggest dreams. I say bended because despite the agony rejection has left me with, I will still make it come true.

I’ll take the doubt, thanks

What’s worse about rejection is you see it coming. You proactively, mentally and in some instances financially start preparing for it. Imagine a final year medical student preparing for their last practical. The journey through the operation.

One stitch of “I want it but I can do without it.” Cover that with the “if it doesn’t happen, it wasn’t meant to be,” gore. Add a little bit of “it wasn’t the right time,” for the pain. And how dare I forget “better is coming.” That’s what all seniors recommend.

Born to fight

Right now I’m trying to out-wit the biggest crooks I’ve ever met.

If it’s not self doubt making me wonder if I’m good enough it’s rejection reiterating I’ll never be good enough. It’s like a well planned heist, fighting for my freedom, I manage to show self doubt its mother. Then as the light flickers, rejection whispers “not on my watch.”

Weakened, bended on one knee I asked the soft life for its hand in marriage. Now I have no other choice but to stand up and fight because how dare I deprive the soft life of experiencing me!

As I start plotting my next attack, let me bump some SunEl Music and remember Ubomi Abumanga.

It’s now 2022. This piece is still relatable.
